How Does the Dental Implant Procedure Work?
Dental implants are metal anchors, which act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jaw bone. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrudes through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.
For most patients at Clayton Dental Group, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums, gradually bonding with the jaw bone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your restorative dentist will design your final bridgework or denture to ultimately improve both function and aesthetics.
After the implant has bonded to the jaw bone, the second phase begins. Your surgeon will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar. Dr. Haidari can then start crafting your new teeth. An impression must be taken, ten posts or attachments can be connected to your new implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments. Throughout the duration of the implant process, most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life!

The process begins when a CAT scan is taken of the patient’s jaw bone. This CAT scan allows for the generation of a three-dimensional model of the jaw bone that can then be used with virtual reality software to plan the implant placement without the presence of the patient. The results are a more accurate implant placement and less time spent in the dentist's chair.
